MERRY CHRISTMAS!

To one and all, a blessed Christmas, a wonderful holiday season, and a great, healthy New Year!
Over the nice long weekend, we got to do a lot of celebrating, getting together and lots of eating. Wow. Too much.
Val has been going to bed early since she's so exhausted from playing with her new toys, so Erin and I have gotten to see some movies lately.
Four Christmases with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. Funny, very relatable for Christmas time.
Julie and Julia with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. Good story, really well-acted.
The Hangover with Bradley Cooper. I thought it would be funny and raunchy. It wasn't.
Just my opinions.

SCHOOL DAYS

Back to School.
Three little words that bring such a range of emotions.
Our daughter Valerie started Pre-K this week, and she couldn't wait! She had on her new polka dot dress, her new sneakers, and her new backpack. She was all smiles at the house, in the car, and at the school....until she saw a few of the other kids whimpering or holding on to their mom's legs. Then her little brain started to work. "What's up? Why are they upset? Maybe there's something I don't know about."
So as soon as it was time to march into class, the tears started. "No dad! I don't wanna go to school!" Oh great! We tried to calm her down and reassure her. But when it was time to go, Erin and I just had to say goodbye and leave her with the teachers. Thank goodness we got a call a little later that she was fine and having a blast. Phew! One day down.
So moms and dads, we now know what you've been going through.
Hang in there.
OR, if you're HAPPY that it's finally back-to-school time...ENJOY!

THE END OF SUMMER

I'm back from a great week at the shore. My sister and her family went to Cancun for the week, so Erin, Valerie and I were housesitting. AND taking care of their pets, Jake the dog and Meowzie the cat. Valerie LOVED it! Walking the dog, feeding them, playing with them. She was in her glory. Daddy's allergies weren't TOO bad either, so it was a great time.
The weather was great...sunny and HOT!
The beach was packed, the boardwalk was jammed. What recession, right?
We had a lot of good seafood, slept 8 hours a night, and now I'm ready to get back to work.
Kind of. LOL

REMEMBERING MICHAEL

How sad. How shocking. The death of Michael Jackson at the age of 50 leaves us all stunned. We all marveled at his talents, sang along with his songs, and tried to mimic his incredible dancing.
We also watched him become more and more isolated, saw his lifestyle become more and more eccentric, and wondered about the allegations made against him. Hopefully he will be remembered for his talent, his energy and his attempts at making the world a better place through his charitable efforts. It's hard to believe that someone so rich and famous could die with so many legal and financial problems. Not to mention his personal struggles. Sadly, it's an all too familiar tale. Fame is not all it's cracked up to be. Thank you, Michael, for the gift of your music. Rest in peace.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

I hope you enjoy your Father's Day. Like Mother's Day, it's a day of mixed emotions for so many of you. Celebrating, going out to eat, opening presents and cards. Or perhaps visiting the cemetery if your dad has passed away. To all the fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, step-fathers, foster-fathers, and to those who are "just like a father"...Happy Father's Day!

JOE SNEDEKER

I had a lot of fun this morning on WNEP TV with Joe Snedeker in the backyard and the gang from WNEP. It was all part of my winning the WNEP Favorite DJ Poll. He's a crazy man, but really cool. He's great at what he does. No cue cards, no teleprompter, it's all in his head. Pretty impressive to have that gift of gab all morning on live TV.
Thanks, Joe and Tom and Trish and Kelly....I had a blast!
You can watch some of the video on the Frankie page on Magic93fm.com.

VACATION

I just enjoyed a great week off. It's so great to sleep past 4 AM. LOL
Erin took her mom and Valerie and their friend to Cape May for a little "girls' getaway". They had a blast! Perfect weather.
I went to Las vegas for a few days with my sister. I'm so lucky to have a sister who is such a great person and wonderful friend. We had a ball. We stayed at New York New York, had some great meals (Chinese, Mexican), gambled a little (broke even, thank goodness), saw the play Jersey Boys, (it was excellent), and enjoyed walking the strip and hitting the pool.
Summer is good.

THANK YOU!

A big thank you to everyone who voted for me in the WNEP-TV Favorite DJ Poll.
I won!! Hard to believe! How cool! They've invited me to appear in the backyard with Joe Snedeker on Newswatch 16 This Morning. I'll let you know when that's going to be. I can't wait!
Thanks to Andy Palumbo and everyone at WNEP for the opportunity.

OCEAN CITY

We had a great weekend getaway to Ocean City, Maryland last weekend.
It was beautiful on Saturday...sunny and 80. We walked the boardwalk, had lunch outside on the deck at Shenanigans, and played lots of games in the arcade.
We got to see my nieces Megan and Michelle, and my sister Sue and her husband Gerry.
Valerie had a blast having a sleepover with her cousins and their dog Jake and cat Meowzie.
Man, was it crowded!!! My sister said it was like middle-of-summer traffic. It took almost an hour to get over the bridge into Ocean City on Saturday afternoon. And leaving on Sunday was bumper-to-bumper. Just a word to the wise....if you're going to the shore this summer, it looks like you will not be alone!!

GOT IT!!!!!

Finally! One of my lifelong dreams has come true! I caught a foul ball at a baseball game!!
I know it sounds stupid, but I've always wanted to catch one, and last night, I did!
I was at the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees game with my friend Mike. We were sitting right behind the first-base dugout. I brought my glove just in case. A foul ball went over our heads and into the upper level. Well, I knew it was gonna come back down. It bounced off the seats, and came flying down toward us. I lunged over the row of seats, and BAM! A nice back-handed stab! I got it!! The crowd went wild! I turned around, held up the ball and bowed and blew kisses. I had waited for that moment my whole life. It was awesome. Thank God I didn't drop it!!
There you go...one more thing I can cross off my bucket list.

Quantum of Solace

I saw the latest James Bond movie over the weekend. Action-packed! I like Daniel Craig as Bond..really intense. The chase scenes in this movie are incredible....in boats, in cars, in airplanes, on foot...I have no idea how they film that stuff without killing someone! I have no idea what the plot was, but it was quite a thrill ride.

DECADES OF DJs

Thanks to Andy Palumbo and the folks at WNEP for the nice feature they did on me on Thursday. It was great to see Andy again. He worked at our sister station WARM years ago.
They did a real nice story on me since I've been waking you up for such a long time...I started at Magic 93 back in 1988.
They're also doing a Favorite DJ Poll on their website if you'd like to vote. www.wnep.com

FROST/NIXON

I finally saw Frost/Nixon the other day. I was really into the whole Watergate scandal when I was a kid. I was 13 in 1972, so it was a big part of that summer. The movie was terrific. Great acting. Frank Langella as Nixon was stupendous, and Michael Sheen as David Frost was so good, I forgot I was watching an actor. I'm not sure how much of the small details are true...like the comments Nixon made to Frost before the tapings, the late-night phone call, etc, but all in all, a really worthwhile film. Check it out.

DANNY GANS

We lost a truly great entertainer over the weekend. Danny Gans, who was named Entertainer of the Year in Las Vegas 11 times, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 52.
You may have never heard of him, but Gans was the real deal on stage. A great impressionist, comic, singer, dancer...he did it all. Erin and I saw his show on our honeymoon, and we loved it! He was in great shape, loved to work out, was a healthy eater, and supposedly led a clean life. He loved performing in Vegas, because it meant he didn't have to travel all over the country, and he could stay home with his family. It was his dream come true. His love of life, family, God and entertaining really came across when he was on stage. He will be missed.
Danny Gans is survived by his wife and 3 children.

WEATHER!

What a weekend! I hope you got outside. It was so nice, I actually forgot where I lived for a while. :)
A truly rare occurence...3 great days in a row...in April...over a weekend.
Whether you were out exercising, playing, grilling, or working in the yard, I hope you enjoyed it.
We sure did!!

What a great crowd tonight at our first Bo Brothers Happy Hour! Wow! I had a great time. I look forward to seeing you every Friday 5-7 at Bo Brothers, Wyoming Avenue in Wyoming.

MAN ON WIRE

If you like documentaries, I saw a good one on Saturday. Man on Wire...the story of Phillipe Petit, the French high-wire walker, who strung a wire and walked between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center back in the '70s.
It's amazing how much planning went into it, how much daring it took to pull it off.
Very well done.

SESAME STREET LIVE

It was great seeing so many of you at the Wachovia Arena recently for Sesame Street Live Elmo Makes Music. We even got to escort some winners backstage and Valerie got to meet some of the stars of the show.

DISNEY WORLD DAY 5

Another awesome day! The highlight was lunch with the Princesses inside Cinderella's Castle. Erin and I had goosebumps. Valerie got to meet Cinderella, Snow White, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty and Belle. It was so cool! There were so many little princesses dressed up as their favorite Princess...including Valerie, who was dressed as Snow White.
This has been a wonderful vacation.
Was it expensive? Sure.
Was it tiring? You bet! :)
Was it worth it? Absoulutely.
So many of you gave us great advice: "Your daughter is going to be 3 just once. Enjoy every minute of it. They grow up so quickly."
We sure have enjoyed it.
Talk to you on Monday's show!

DISNEY WORLD DAY 4

Aloha from the Polynesian Resort! Another tremendous day.
Exhausting, but tremendous.
Today was Spring Training with my Atlanta Braves versus the Washington Nationals. Erin and Valerie were real troopers and let me enjoy the game. The Braves won 6-2. Plus, I was selected to play Braves Trivia between innings! A girl named Suzy Q interviewed me live on the P.A. system and asked me a tough question. Of course I got it right. I won a free parasail flight from Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre! Oh well....I was kinda hoping for a Braves t-shirt.
Tonight was dinner with the Princesses at Epcot. Valerie met Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella! How thrilling! Then it was the fabulous light and fireworks show around the World Showcase, Illuminations.
Friday it's the Magic Kingdom all morning, then lunch at Cinderella's Castle, then we're hitting the pool! Time for some R&R.
Catch up with you in a while.

DISNEY WORLD DAY 3

Another perfect day in paradise.
Really sunny, nice and hot.
I sure hope it warms up back home before we arrive. It's going to be a shock to our systems if it's still cold.
Today was a fun day. First of all, we all slept for 10 hours! What's more fun than that??
We had a great lunch with The Little Einsteins at Disney's Hollywood Studios, then did the Playhouse Disney Show featuring Mickey's Clubhouse, Handy Manny and The Little Einsteins. We're like so many of you moms and dads. We hardly watch the show...it's so great to just watch the expressions on the kids' faces! Priceless!
Then back to the Magic Kingdom to get photos with Mickey and Minnie, and ride more rides.
Tonight was a FABULOUS fireworks show above Cinderella's Castle. Absolutely amazing. If you and the family are coming this spring or summer, do not miss it!
Tomorrow is Spring Training with my beloved Atlanta Braves, then dinner with the Princesses at Epcot. I'll keep you posted.

DISNEY WORLD DAY 2

Another great day in Orlando...what else is new, right? Sunny and 84.
Busy day today...Breakfast with Winnie the Pooh at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom. Valerie got to meet Winnie, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore. What a thrill.
Then lots of rides. Dumbo, Peter Pan, Snow White, It's a Small World, the Carousel, the Tea Cups...we did 'em all. So much fun.
The park is crowded...about a 20-30 minute wait for most rides. Thank goodness for Fast Pass!
We had a super dinner tonight at the Grand Floridian. I love that place. You really feel like you're far away from home.
Tomorrow is more fun. Lunch with The Little Einsteins! Valerie can't wait!
We hope you're keeping warm back home.

DISNEY WORLD DAY 1

Greetings from sunny Orlando! It's supposed to be a beautiful week...sunny and 85 every day. I love it! I'll try to bring the warm weather home with me.
We're staying at the Polynesian....really nice and great access to the parks with the monorail.
Lots of great deals here right now....they're really trying to deal with the economy.
Lots of people here, so it must be working.
We're looking forward to some great fun, including the Character Dining. You Moms and Dads know all about that! Breakfast with Winie the Pooh, Lunch with The Little Einsteins, Dinner with the Princesses, Lunch with Mickey...that's a busy schedule. But don't worry, I will be able to squeeze in a Braves' Spring Training Game.
Have a great day...I'll write more later.

TAKING CHANCE

I just saw a TERRIFIC movie made for HBO.
It's called Taking Chance and it stars Kevin Bacon.
It's about the military's little-publicized policy of providing a uniformed escort for every fallen soldier. The film is so powerful, and the story is so moving, that it should be seen by all Americans. It will be on HBO a lot in the next few weeks. Watch it with your family. Don't miss it!

GLOBETROTTERS

I had a great time today meeting Harlem Globetrotter Buckets Blakes on our show. Super cool guy...really dedicated to the Globetrotters and to being a role model for kids. The Globetrotters will be at the Wachovia Arena Friday night March 6th. They always put on a great show for the whole family.

VALENTINE'S DAY

Happy Valentine's Day! I told you that Erin and I were celebrating with a rare "date night" last night. We had a fabulous dinner at Tony Stella's Goodfello's. Clams Italiano, Seafood Ravioli, Mr. Tony's Salmon, Veal Mignon.....wow! Incredible! And Mr. Tony, Giuseppe and Brian
went all out to help us enjoy a nice, romantic night out. Just what we needed. And yes...just like you when you go out without your kids...we spent a lot of time talking about our daughter. LOL
It never fails I guess. We had a blast.
Happy Valentine's day to you and your sweetheart!

SPRING FEVER

It was so great to be outside yesterday!!! What a day! 63 degrees on my car thermometer.
I spent most of the day filming some TV spots with Attorney Michelle Quinn from HKQ Kids. Watch for them in the coming months. And for lots of child safety tips, go to www.hkqkids.org.
On Valentine's Day, we'll be babysitting for friends of ours so they can go out to dinner. So tonight is our "Valentine's Day" night out. Erin and I are going to dinner tonight while her Mom watches Valerie. We're treating ourselves to Tony Stella's Goodfello's. Can't wait. I hope you have some special Valentine fun lined up too.

DORA

It was great to see so many of you at Dora the Explorer Live at the Scranton Cultural Center last night.
What a show! The kids went crazy! It was so much fun to watch Valerie and all the kids singing, dancing, and participating in the show.
We got to meet Dora and Tico before the show and they were so great with all the kids.
We had a blast and we loved seeing you and your little ones at the show.
There are 2 more shows today, at 4:00 and 7:00.

A MILD TUESDAY

Hooray!! The temperature was actually above freezing when I got in to work today!
I know it won't last long, but it sure gives us something to look forward to.
Erin, Valerie and I are going to see Dora the Explorer Live at the Scranton Cultural Center tonight. I'll be introducing the show and hosting the backstage meet-and-greet. Valerie is going to go wild. She LOVES Dora. We're taking her little friend Ciera with us, and her parents Shane and Michelle. Should be a great night!

SCRANTON STATE SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF

Today we gave information on how to get involved in trying to keep the Scranton State School for the Deaf open.
The website with all the info and the on-line petition is www.sssdsos.org.

Sunday, February 8, 2009

We're now watching the Bruce Springsteen Super Bowl halftime show for the 100th time.
Not for me.
For Valerie!
She loves it! She dances around, playing air guitar, screaming when the fireworks go off.
It's hilarious!
During Glory Days, she says, "Dad, look! Little Stevie!!"
She especially likes the trick Bruce pulls at the end where he throws his guitar around his neck about 10 times. She wants to learn that one.
Are your little ones hooked on anything on TV that surprises you?

Friday, February 6, 2009

We saw a great movie...Slumdog Millionaire...nominated for every major award.
Really well-done, intense, original. A real treat in a sea of copy cat movies and boring sequels.
Check it out.

February Vacation

We've had a great week off. Visiting my family in Ocean City, Maryland, the temperature on Monday and Tuesday was 55 degrees! Awesome!!
Great Super Bowl too! Way to go Steelers!
Looking forward to being back on Monday morning.
